LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCED BIRTH DOULA?

More and more families are hearing about the positive results that come from working with a doula. It is common to feel overwhelmed and unprepared during pregnancy - there are so many changes. However, having a trained, caring labor professional by your side can reduce anxiety and help you feel more confident and empowered during pregnancy and the birth of your child. A Doula is your advocate, your steady companion, a guide for both you and partner, as well as an additional resource.

What is a doula? The word, Doula comes from a Greek word that means woman servant, or one who mother’s the mother. A doula provides continuous emotional, physical and informational support to families before, during and just after birth. This allows the birthing person to feel safe and less anxious which allows the labor and birth to progress. A doula also helps families advocate for themselves by asking appropriate questions and being well informed of the choices they have. Doulas are making a positive impact on overall satisfaction as noted by the statistics below...

Check out the research on giving birth with a doula by your side:

  • 39% less likely to give birth by cesarean
  • 9% less likely to request medication
  • 41% less likely to need an assisted delivery
  • 35% less likely to be dissatisfied with their birth experience
  • 31% less likely to use synthetic oxytocin
  • Shorter labors
  • Enhanced breastfeeding
  • Less postpartum depression and anxiety
  • Greater self esteem

Who wouldn’t want a doula?

Certified Denver Birth Doula

DURING YOUR PREGNANCY

As your doula I look forward to getting to know you and your partner on our prenatal visits. Finding out what your desires are for this birth. How involved does partner want to be? How do you both see my role? I look forward to sharing some simple exercises you can do during pregnancy which can allow room for baby to move into a more favorable position for birth, making it easier and more manageable for you. We will go over a variety of comfort measures and discuss your postpartum plan to ensure a smooth transition to your new life with baby.

ONCE YOU ARE IN LABOR

I have found, in my experience supporting hundreds of births, when families have continuous emotional, physical and informational support of a doula it naturally reduces anxiety and helps them to have a more empowering birth experience. Especially, when labor is longer than expected, it’s nice to have the constant support of a doula you have already developed a relationship with and who is well aware of your birth preferences. While having no preconceived ideas of how any birth should go, I like to make sure that you understand the choices you have throughout your birth. Keeping you informed and involved in all decisions affecting both you and your baby ensures a more positive outcome.

MY SERVICES INCLUDE:

My services include two prenatal visits, unlimited phone and email consultation. I will join you in labor when you are ready for me to come, preferably at home before going to your birth location. I stay with you throughout your labor and birth, and help you to advocate for the Golden Hour with your baby. I also provide one in person postpartum visit. At this visit I will provide detailed birth notes, fill in any gaps, answer any questions you may have and provide you with resources as necessary. As a Certified Lactation Counselor I can also help you overcome many common breastfeeding challenges. My fee is $1800.
